I was reading about a con in another country and part of the ticket price was forwarded to Greenpeace.
Well I just thought it would be nice if we could gather, have fun, and still be doing some good in the process of all that!
So perhaps each year SMASH could choose an organisation, eg. WWF, and the theme would be pandas/black and white.
And of course the theme would be just optional/recommended, on art, cosplay, etc..
I understand that this would limit some of our creativity, and increase ticket prices, but this is really just a suggestion.
Thanks for reading!
SMASH! donates to the Fred Hollows Foundation through their on-the-day conventions. Remember the Evangelion, Love Hina, Art posters and other items that were being bid on during 2010's Town Hall SMASH! convention? Proceeds from that auction all went to the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Specifically each year since inception SMASH! has been auctioning off their SMASH! Travelling Artbook: http://www.smash.org.au/events/art/charity-artbook-auction/
Of course, an added charity contribution by the convention-goers through ticket prices would be nice, and the theme tie-in is a good idea. I am in support of this idea, although I also understand that some people may be turned off from the convention entirely based on a higher ticket price - which won't do any good for anyone.
