We're super happy with the guests that SMASH! has been able to bring to Sydney to date.
What kind of guests are you hoping to see next year? Seiyuu, singers, mangaka, directors? Any specific names?
Nothing is too outrageous, we'd love to hear each and every idea!
an idea is, invite all the guess's back and have them all under the same roof. the idea is to celabrat you guys going to the scec, in 2011. also have some sort of dinner thing on for thoes who are willing to pay more for there tix, or have it as a side event. its the same idea as avcon's gold pass idea, just done in a diffent way....
Some people I like... just names that spring to mind atm, might think of others later. 8D
Ultimate guest: Paku Romi <333<br />
Other favs:
Yamaguchi Kappei
Jun Fukuyama
Takahiro Sakurai
Kazuhiko Inoue
Miki Shinichiro
So those are all seiyuu, another idea might be to bring out a j-drama actor *__*
e.g ikuta toma (pls <3)
I'd be happy with the following:
- Yui Horie (love x500 <3 She has been in many anime and I love her singing voice too)<br />- Hayao Miyazaki (I wish lol, but hey, you never know)
- Shinichiro Miki (from Initial D)
This is pretty much it. However, while its fine we are getting seiyuus, if you aim higher and go for a quite well known J-pop artist or something, you'd lure the huge crowds in lol
I know it'd be REALLY hard to get the "bigger" Japanese music artists to come here but I've been dying to see SOMEONE here in Australia. I know its generally cos our cons are too small but this time, we've moving to quite a big venue so I was thinking if it was possible or not? But I'd have no idea how to contact those artists in the first place.
Plus, if they perform, I really wouldnt want them to come unless we have the equipment for crazy shows and all that. Like, I'm not saying SMASH is bad, but I dont want us to get a bad reputation xD And I agree in saying, getting a J-artist would probably lure the big crowds and if they're well-known enough, I'm sure people overseas will come just to see them as well.
I was thinking something along either a) the idol groups or b) the jrock bands because they're the ones that tend to go out of Japan and explore newer grounds. I know lots of idol (female and male) groups and Jrock bands have gone over to the US and Europe to visit and play a show at their anime cons (and yes, I know US and Europe are HUGE compared to us but just saying...)
I really dont mind who it is, just SOMEONE! But just to let you know, my favorite band is HANGRY&ANGRY (and they recently started to go into the US and Europe as guests for anime cons already) ;D Please feel free to google more about them ^^
As for seiyuus, I'd really like to see Paku Romi or Ogata Megumi. Any of the voice actors from like FinalFantast Advent Children? Yeah, that'd be awesome.
And a director of a Japanese film is a good idea. Maybe?
Actually, anyone Japanese would probably be awesome xDDD
Actor, singer, band, seiyuu, artist, etc xD
*cough*rememberHANGRY&ANGRYthough!*cough*
I've probably posted this elsewhere before, but:
+ LittleKuriboh (internet fame)
+ TeamFourStar (as for LK)
+ Hideo Kojima-sama-sir (because Metal Gear is one of the best Japanese franchises ever).
+ NAOKI/Naoki Maeda (because DDR is another awesome Japanese franchise, and he could promote TERRA, the J-Pop duo he's part of)
@YinTime: MasakoX and Vegeta3986 are part of TeamFourStar.
I'm a bit bias seeing as she's part of the Kiseki team but I would like to suggest and highly recommend that you bring Ein Lee to Australia. She is very well known among the deviantart circles and is a fantastic illustrator and has been published already as well. http://einlee.deviantart.com
How about the Eminence team from night in fanatasia? I think you guys have done this before, but only as some interlude performance with a one man band last year I think. It would certainly help with advertising on both sides especially if they were to put up another Night in Fantasia performance (well SMASH and EMinence are pretty famous on its own anyways) but it would be cool to really have the team out to perform for a bit :D especially for those people who really enjoy the anime OSTs, and the anime production process of the music part. :D Just as well the team is based in sydney, so it wont be too hard to find them :D although they may or may not be busy =S I do remember I quite loved RomeoxJuliet OST that they were apart off :)
the gazettE. they are a very popular japanese visual kei band, which would interest a lot of the people that go to SMASH!.
OH and nana mizuki is an excelent singer and seiyuu, and also kanae ito. both of them are very talented seiyuus
AND (lol another one) you could try for hayao miyazaki (I am sure everyone knows him, director of spirited away and howl's moving castle) and also Naoko Takeuchi, who was the original creator of sailor moon...and mamoru whats-his-name, the dude who plays light yagami in death note
I'd love to see Coey or Shy from Deviantart come. *V* ) Their artwork is really amazing~! http://-coey-.deviantart.com/ http://shysuiko.deviantart.com/
Hey, I hear Cristina Vee is easily approachable over Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/user/ValliereVee#p/f
She has done voice acting in both games and anime, she did the live portrayal of Haruhi Suzumiya in The Adventures of the ASOS Brigade.
Direct copy paste from a friend.
my wish list. (u know if financially possible, it would make me really happy)
1.
tanaka rie
notable appearances
lacus clyne - gundam seed
chii - chobits
reasons to get her.
she can fill up the entertainment center as almost every boy from hong kong / china knows of gundam, and in a sense, her character.
2.
koshimizu ami
notable appearances
kallen stratfield - code geass
tsukamoto tenma - school rumble
reasons to get her.
riding off the immense popularity of code geass from a few years ago. as well as the fact she is actually quite good looking in real life.
my realistic list
1.
game developer/producer from namco, capcom or nintendo.
wont be expensive i believe, would generate alot of interest in quite a considerable part of the population.
2.
startup indie bands
as you said, wont be expensive, but the problem is generating interest from them.. good examples would have been HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR.
3.
rie fu
british born japanese singer. did songs for bleach/gundam 5 years ago. disappeared off the map after that i believe but im sure she can generate interest due to the large fanbase of bleach
4.
Naoya Uchida
notable appearances
madara uchiha - naruto
light's dad - deathnote

As for my own opinions. I would like to see some Japanese Bands too. Biased much, but i do have an idea of what kind've bands would be willing to come out here to promote themselves, and not cost us much. How popular or well recieved they will be, is another thing, but even if not many people know them, they're here to get people to know them. May not draw crowds but adds to the dynamics to the con.

I would love to see a band like the Pillows come~
The problem facing bringing ANY music group over is that, while it may not seem immediately apparent, they cost a lot of money. If you consider that any band consists of at least three people, the cost alone of flying theme here is quite high. Then you have equipment costs of rigging up a professional concert setup, potential performance fees and royalties, etc. It all adds up.
Jin Joson and/or/some of Tuxedo Team please!
They're pretty famous cosplayers on deviantart from the Phillipines :D

Yes bands cost alot. But they don't have to act as part of the Smash convention. They can be externally handled but colaborated and timed for Smash enjoyment. like what we suggested with the extra after concert.
They can appear in the day @ the con for a sort've interview without music and setup. I just don't think they should be considered normal guests in the way we pay for them to come and do their thing. It'll depend on the band but i really think they have alot more to benefit working with us than just a free holiday to sydney and work on the side. this is undoubtedly a good chance since we're gonna help them heaps with organisation and logistics minus the costs (not costing us that is). Its just what bands do, go overseas put on a concert and promote themselves. For voice actors and artists, its abit different.
It'll be hard to convince a very well established band, but there are many up coming indie bands. Otakon got Larcenciel and that was only with such turn out. If we aim for a mid level band, it just seems very possible.
Keep in mind that the attendance for Otakon is 30,000 (21,000 for the year L'Arc~en~ciel came over). I won't deny that some bands do come over to Australia for music festivals but that's a very touch-and-go area. We're Japanese music fans but as far as Australia as a whole is concerned they are very niche (unless you're Shonen Knife or something).
I'm all for bringing bands but it's something that has a lot of hurdles involved, both logistically and financially.
yea so if we get 1/6th of the attendance of otakon, that'll give us a band that is 1/6th as good as Larcenciel who i consider top tier. as for how much otakon had to fork out financially i dunno, but it would've been way over what they could afford. Can't say they were free, but i think this is something worth inquiring into?
Niche yea, probably would require some sort've market research on the interest people have in this area of music. which costs money as well sigh
Matt you do realise that inviting each guest costs a separate amount of money, and requires separate organising, liasons on the day, space....etc...
Grabbing ALL the guests back at the same time is going to cost for the god knows how many number of guests times amount of money time and oragnising...
You obviously have no clue about the work that SMASH does to make the convention happen. Stop imposing your condescending attidude and lack of spelling, grammar and common sense onto this suggestion board!
@WillDoesNotApprove Same as before, personal attacks are unnecessary.
Isn't team Hanoi from a while ago.. didn't know they were still around haha.. also their version of night of fire is a cover for whoever did it for inital D.
If we were to go with a girl band, I'd probably go for something like Girl Dead Monster.... but not sure how many Angel Beats fans there are out there
Maybe Have Miku from An Cafe / Lc5 @ smash next year or Stephanie Sheh as one of the guests
OH! OOOOH! OOOOH!!! *Puts hand up* PICK MY IDEA.
Aside from my original suggestion of LittleKuriboh and TeamFourStar, I HIGHLY SUGGEST RIYU KOSAKA.
I was going to emphasise my suggestion by adding 'unf' a few hundred times but yeah, maybe not...
@LordSabbo Someone called Niko
