Public anime screening
  • I believe that in 2006 the Canberra anime convention anime.au held an anime screening in Garema Place, which is the central mall area in Canberra. Could SMASH! hold something like this, and use it to drum up interest in the main convention?

I'm not sure how big a venue you'd want to consider, and I suspect it would not be an event you'd make money from (in fact, you'd want to have some good sponsors to even have a chance of being able to afford it), but it would also be an effective form of advertising. Obviously Madman (or another distributor) would have to be on board to grant screening rights, but past that would someone like Dendy be interested (and use it to promote ReelAnime 2011)? The Japan Foundation and/or the Embassy of Japan (who have held free Miyazaki screenings at the National Library)?

  • I like the idea. It's fortunate how Reel Anime was timed this year and the fact it featured Evangelion 2.0. It would be cool to have it a little more planned out and, as you say, maybe use it to promote SMASH!
