SMASH! Merchandise
  • This came up tangentially in the Premium Tickets idea but is anyone interested in SMASH! merchandise? I'm thinking t-shirts, possibly a hoodie, at first. In future years it could move beyond this to other things but seems like t-shirts are a safe place to start.

  • its a good idea, for a 1st year in runing with this idea

  • I've always wanted SMASH! merch. Would love a t-shirt or hoodie so bad <3

  • When we opted to make badges for last year, me and sai were already thinking of smash merch, tshirts, totes etc but the idea was shot down before it started~ I've always thought becoz our mascots are very intriguing it would be nice to make shirts. But if we start going into things like.. cups.. and weird things i think it wouldnt work. Shirts / totes / badges is probably enough if we're planning on any merchandise?

  • We need to get that 'not for resale' thing off the SMASH posters, or so End said. > >

I think people would definitely buy SMASH posters or postcards if they could get them signed by the guests, for instance...

  • agree with Jintor and oh yeah, smash original prints would be nice too~

  • Oh I know smash merch has been in discussion for years and I was really happy when we finally had the badges made. *bought some from the SMASH! table at SN last year* :D Hopefully there is enough money and interest to make more merch for next year. :D

Oooh nice mascot tshirts would be lovely! We always have such great mascot designs every year *___*.

I think generally badges, tshirts, hoodies, keychains, lanyards, prints, stickers, bumper stickers are the type of stuff that sells. (Because you've got the more expensive stuff like tshirts on one end, and the cheaper scaled merch like keychains and stickers on the other end, so works for most attendees) :D

Maybe instead of selling the SMASH! posters, maybe have posters for selling made up. So they might look similar but without much of the text?
You could have a few different designs e.g a big poster of the mascots (full body or portrait) with SMASH! logo.

  • I agree, with Tshirts and badges you can find relatively cheap prices even if its short runs. I suggest it should be " limited editions " because it will sell and each year it will be different kind of thing. Plus you also don't want to have too much excess left over and even if people miss out they will have more initiative to purchase the following year?

About the poster idea i'm assuming Jintor was talking about brand new posters and just meant in poster / postcard size, kinda like our art prints that we sell at the artist circle? But it would be lovely if we could sell the original art on posters but wouldn't we have to ask for permission from the artist and then you have to talk about splitting (unless its smash property as soon as they draw it) but again, probably only have limited and don't do too many so that the following year we could have some new and different ones just to keep the hype?

  • Certainly points to consider. I don't know the legalese behind the art that guests draw for our posters and stuff but I would assume that they're probably created on contract to us and would be owned by SMASH! as a whole? Definitely get seperate ones for selling, I'd think, a seperate print run of some kind...

  • If they're a reasonable price with awesome designs, I'm sure they'll sell.
Tshirts, hoodies, badges, posters~ I think stick with one design for now and move onto more designs later on when you guys know the gig is successful~

  • All of our guest/poster artwork has been commissioned on a promotional purposes only basis (hence why the posters have a 'For promotional use only. Not for resale' disclaimer). This is largely because merchandise and price splitting is an iffy area and artists aren't necessarily comfortable with their art being sold.

We've always wanted to have more SMASH! merch although we've been hesitant to launch in to things that are expensive to produce, such as t-shirts and bags (I always wanted a SMASH! tote bag for one year, haha). Nothing worse than spending lots of money only to be left with boxes of unsold merchandise.

With the right planning and a positive attendee response, it would be awesome to do more merchandise for 2011 :3

  • Yeah, if you need contacts I've actually been doing merch & designing for aunsw (if you've seen the gundam boy (original design) / yaoi tshirts and the totes ) so we could do some planning for next year

  • i am all for merch! i buy some form of merch at every event/concert/con i go to =]
i <3 tees, badges, keyrings, posters, lanyards, stickers .. all what glorfindel said<br />
my suggestion is bracelets ... along the form of this style

picture SMASH! or even SMASH!ed lol *tumbleweed*

but yehh theyre easy & somewhat affordable to produce & quite popular imo

  • I would buy an "I got SMASH!ed in 20xx" T-Shirt for sure. Hoodie, probably not. Random bits of little merchandise (badges, stickers, etc), quite possibly.

  • i think it would be awesome if smash had merchandise! I always wanted some....

  • I'm one of the SMASH! staff but I would still dig a SMASH! shirt or especially a hoodie! A baseball cap too provided that the design is kwl ^^

  • The shirt would have the Mascots on it... Right?

  • I totally support the idea of SMASH! merchandise. Especially if they're buttons or posters. Totes would be cool too.

  • Once you advance into merchandise, make SMASH Mascot Nendroids...
I'd get them... for my collection :)
